Dear
colleagues:
In
the name of the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Health of
the People’s Republic of China, Director-General of the State
Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and President
of the Organizing Committee of the Congress, I feel greatly
honored to invite you to attend the International Congress
on Traditional Medicine (Beijing 2000).
We
are marching forward to the 21st century. The goal
“Health For All” will still be an important task to be reached
in the new century. It demands mutual cooperation and joint
efforts from all professionals of every branch of learning
of the medical sciences, including traditional medicine. The
World Health Organization has attached a great importance
to the development of traditional medicine, and done fruitful
work for promoting its development. Natural pharmacotherapy,
non-pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, etc. in traditional medicine
possess outstanding advantage in reducing toxicity and side
effects, lowering medical cost, broadening the scope of basic
health care. Therefore, to enhance the role of traditional
medicine in the health care scientifically and effectively
is one of the major priorities in world health work of the
21st century.
At
the turning point to the new century, having a great support
from the World Health Organization in sponsoring the International
Congress on Traditional Medicine, having numerous experts
and scholars in the field of traditional medicine from all
over the world gathered together to exchange academic experience,
discuss the developing strategy of the traditional medicine
in the 21st century and define the status and role
of traditional medicine in the health care system in the future
are of great importance in exploiting and taking advantage
of the medical and health-care resources from various channels
in order to upgrade the medical and health level of the mankind.
April
in Beijing is the spring time with pleasant weather and beautiful
scenery. As the host, we are making active preparations. We
warmly welcome colleagues at home and abroad to participate
in this important and significant Congress.
